FLOOR MAINTENANCE & CARE

EPOXY FLOORS

** A GOOD, MICROFIBER, CLOTH DUST MOP IS ALL THAT IS REQUIRED! DAMPEN THE MOP WITH HOT WATER FOR BEST RESULTS.
** KEEPING A GOOD SIZED “CARPET-LIKE” RUG AT EACH ENTRY/EXIT HELPS TO KEEP FROM TRACKING ABRASIVE DIRT OR SAND INTO THE HOUSE. ALTHOUGH, TAKING OFF YOUR SHOES IS THE MOST AFFECTIVE WAY OF NOT TRACKING ANYTHING IN.
** IT IS IMPORTANT TO INSTALL “FELT-PADS” OR “RUBBER-PADS” UNDER THE FEET OF ANY FREE STANDING FURNITURE TO PREVENT ANY UNWANTED SCUFFS OR DULLING OF YOUR HIGH GLOSS FLOORS. (EXAMPLES: CHAIRS, BAR STOOLS, ROCKING CHAIRS, RECLINERS, ETC.)

Maintaining a clean epoxy floor is not as hard as it seems. After receiving your epoxy floor, you might be wondering, “how do I clean and properly maintain my new epoxy floor?” Fortunately, Epoxy floor care is extremely easy. Since Epoxy is highly resistant to dust and dirt, cleaning your Epoxy floor is a simple task.

Mopping the Floor

**For regular cleaning of your floor, a simple dust mop will work wonders. Applying your dust mop around once a week is the best way to keep epoxy floors clean. If desired, you can also take a hose to wash down your entire floor and then use a squeegee to absorb the residue. Every three or four months, a more vigorous scrub may be required to obtain a clean Epoxy floor. This is especially the case when your floor is heavily trafficked by machinery. You’ll need a hard foam mop, as a string mop will leave streak marks and will not clean your Epoxy floors with the most efficiency.

Cleaning Products

For standard cleaning procedures, it is highly recommended to use an 8:1 ratio of hot water to Simple Green in a spray bottle. Extra care will be required to keep the professional gloss coating in the event of staining. For this, use a stiff nylon brush with a stronger Simple Green solution. However, if you apply too much solution while cleaning, there is a chance that your Epoxy floor might become less gloss, so make sure to take precaution.

Stubborn Stains

Use a ratio of 1:1 CLR brand cleaner with warm water. Using a scrub pad or brush, firmly clean the surface, then douse with cold water. It is advised that you do not let the solution sit for a long time on the surface. A minute or two should be all that is needed for your cleaning needs. Some products that may be kept in your home or business that may leave a degaussing effect on your floor. Thankfully, this usually can be removed by simply using hot water and a deck brush. Most of the products needed to take care of your Epoxy floor are found at your local hardware store, so there is little difficulty finding the supplies needed for maintenance.

Other Epoxy Hacks and Tricks

For scuffs and difficult surfaces marks: Use a magic eraser and a microfiber to wipe away residue.
For easy clean machines and tools: A walk behind scrubber with a white pad and diluted warm water cleaning solution will make regular floor care and dirt removal very simple. Walk slowly and empty dirty water tank frequently to avoid streaking and spreading dirt instead of cleaning the surface.
For smaller spaces, a steam mop can also be a very effective cleaning method. It is recommended to clean the floor and remove bulk dirt/dust first before using a steam mop to avoid spreading surface dirt. Be sure mop head is sufficiently clean before using it on your surface.

A WARNING FOR WHEN YOU ARE CLEANING

STAY AWAY FROM CERTAIN PRODUCTS. USING CITRUS CLEANERS OR VINEGAR CAN ALSO CAUSE YOUR EPOXY FLOOR TO LOSE ITS GLOSSY SHINE. CLEANERS WITH SOAP ALSO HAVE THE POSSIBILITY OF LEAVING STREAK MARKS ON YOUR FLOOR AND WILL INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD THAT YOUR FLOOR WILL BECOME SLIPPERY WHEN WET. THIS IS WHY CHEMICAL CLEANERS SUCH AS SIMPLY GREEN ARE RECOMMENDED FOR CLEANING YOUR EPOXY FLOORS. REMEMBER THAT YOUR EPOXY FLOORS ARE EXTREMELY DURABLE, BUT ARE NOT INDESTRUCTIBLE. DAMAGE WILL OCCUR AND ACCIDENTS ARE BOUND TO HAPPEN. FORTUNATELY, MOST STAINS CAN EASILY BE REMOVED WITH THE RIGHT KNOWLEDGE AND PROPER AMOUNT OF ELBOW GREASE.

Polished Concrete

Polished concrete floors are durable, attractive, and easy to maintain when cared for properly. Following the guidelines below will help preserve the appearance, performance, and lifespan of your polished concrete surface.

Routine Maintenance

Daily / As Needed

  • Dry dust mop using a microfiber mop to remove dirt, sand, and debris.

  • Promptly wipe up spills to prevent staining or residue buildup.

  • Use walk-off mats at entrances to reduce tracked-in grit.

Weekly

  • Damp mop or auto-scrub with clean water or a pH-neutral cleaner specifically designed for polished concrete.

  • Ensure mop heads and pads are clean and free of abrasive particles.

Monthly (or as traffic requires)

  • Auto-scrub with a non-abrasive pad (white or red) and a neutral cleaner.

  • Rinse thoroughly to avoid cleaner residue.

Approved Cleaning Products

Use only:

  • pH-neutral cleaners labeled safe for polished concrete

  • Clean water for light cleaning

  • Manufacturer-recommended concrete maintenance cleaners

Avoid:

  • Acidic cleaners (vinegar, citrus-based, muriatic acid)

  • Alkaline or caustic cleaners (ammonia, bleach, degreasers)

  • Soap-based cleaners (they leave residue and dull the surface)

  • Wax, acrylic coatings, or floor finishes unless specifically approved

What to Avoid

To protect your polished concrete floor:

  • Do not use abrasive pads, brushes, or steel wool

  • Do not drag heavy furniture or equipment—use protective pads or dollies

  • Avoid rubber-backed mats that can discolor the surface

  • Do not allow standing water for extended periods

  • DO NOT TAPE TO POLISHED CONCRETE FLOORS. Protection like ram board can be taped to itself, but never to a polished concrete floor. Never use any type of tape directly to a finished concrete floor.

Stain & Spill Management

  • Clean spills immediately, especially oils, acids, or colored liquids.

  • For stubborn spots, use a neutral cleaner and soft pad.

  • Never scrub aggressively—gentle cleaning is most effective.

Periodic Maintenance

Depending on foot traffic:

  • Burnishing may be recommended periodically to restore gloss and enhance stain resistance.

  • High-traffic areas may benefit from professional maintenance every 12–24 months.

Consult your polished concrete installer or maintenance professional for recommended service intervals.

Long-Term Care Tips

  • Use felt or rubber pads under furniture legs

  • Maintain entrance mats and clean them regularly

  • Address scratches or dull areas early to prevent further wear

  • Follow a consistent cleaning schedule—less is more with polished concrete

Summary

Polished concrete floors require minimal maintenance when cleaned correctly. Regular dust removal, pH-neutral cleaning, and avoidance of harsh chemicals will keep your floor looking polished and performing well for years to come.
